Four color parachute question

I posted this to Field Gear Forum Monday and have had one reply. Wonder if this Forum would have more information - opinions ??

>>Picked up a parachute the other day, raining ever since so I haven't photo'd it yet. Four color, white-green-brown-orange and have seen some on ebay that are called equipment 'chutes. I am wondering if they were military used, Vietnam maybe ? Has a bunch of straps and heavy metal ends so probably complete. Now would there be any markings and if so where ? <<

Got one reply, so far.:

>>Some years back USAF personnel chutes were multi-color. If downed you could use it for hiding. In the desert--Tan, snow--White, Jungle----Green. If you wanted to be spotted--break out the International Orange portion.<<

Thanks,

JimM

I believe the markings would be somewhere on the highest numbered panel. The panels should be

numbered along the skirt (bottom) of the canopy. The Parachute Manual (Volume 1) book by Dan Poynter

should help. Check parapub.com for the book.
