APL-21 Navsuppact Det An Thoi Pocket Patch and Pocket Hanger ...I know little about these navy insignia, but I believe they're related to Swift Boats...These are still sealed in their packages as issued or purchased in Vietnam...Note the patch is Japanese made. Ed

Those are real nice items , especially in the bag. APl was a berthing and messing barge that had to be towed around. During the Vietnam war , there were alot of Swift boats that docked there consistently. If these both came together, that would explain the fact that APL-21 was deployed to Nav Sup. An Thoi between , I believe 65-69.

Does the APL designation tie into the Apple background design on the patch? I have seen this design before and was curious.

Yes.Almost all of the APL units had an apple type design.APL kind of sounds like apple.I like the APL designs.

As far as using the apple in the APL units. Most of the Vietnam era APL stuff I have seen has an apple motif. Here is another Japanese made APL patch.
