Now to a different theater of war, a bring back from a soldier of the 87th Inf Div. Flag measures approximately 6'x3' and is actually a banner meant to hang as shown. (There is a broomstick run through the top)

He signed the banner, and also brought back an armband.

The sword is very nice. looks like it has a Kamon (small silver seal or crest) on the pommel. Have you popped the handle off to see what kind of blade it has? Terry

It does have a crest - a chrysanthemum. And while I did carefully remove the handle, I know nothing about samurai swords or blades.

Was there a signature or some sorts on the "tang" or any writing at all? It is possible that it could be blank too, but my guess is with a family mon it is probably an ancestral blade.

Be care full never to touch the blade! the oils from our hands are naturally acidic. I recommend you buy a 12 dollar sword cleaning kit from ebay to keep it looking so nice.
