Spearhead Posted March 25, 2013 #1 Posted March 25, 2013 Here's a pic of a Japanese bayonet that I've had since I was a kid. I remember thinking that it was a shame that someone painted the names of places the owner served on the scabbard. At the time I really didn’t understand the true value of what was painted on it. As I thin out my childhood collection, I will keep this one. Even though I don’t have any other information on this item, it tells a story. J.R.
SergeantMajorGray Posted March 25, 2013 #2 Posted March 25, 2013 Good thing you didn't remove it when you were a kid!
Bob Hudson Posted March 25, 2013 #3 Posted March 25, 2013 That is a great example of the spoils of war. Just too bad he didn't write his name or unit on it too. I once worked really hard to scrub off what I thought was some Boy Scout troop marks on a WWII canteen cover. I later found out it was USMC uNIS marks and felt very dumb.
RustyCanteen Posted March 25, 2013 #4 Posted March 25, 2013 A classic example. Thanks for sharing it.
Spearhead Posted March 25, 2013 Author #5 Posted March 25, 2013 You're right. I'm glad I didn't remove the names. Thanks for the comments. J.R.
