Cane From Japanese POW Camp

This is a cane brought back by my grandfather Ralph Doellman. He was a medic in the PTO, but we are no longer sure of the unit. He obtained this cane when he helped liberate a Japanese prison camp in the Philippines. Family story says that it was either Cabana Tuan or El Bano, but we're not sure which, or either. This cane, and a dagger that is now in the possession of my uncle, he obtained from the Commandant of the camp. The steel cable inside was used to beat the prisoners and he said when he got it the cable still had pieces of skin clinging to it. The tip of the cane is also weighted with lead to be used as a club. The knife also is permanently stained from blood. The white strips are tape that was applied in around 1955 to stop the split that was starting to form. Thanks for looking! Also if anyone can help me fill in the details of my story I would be very appreciative I've ran into some dead ends.
