This one is my favorite. It belonged to a member of the 3rd Armord Amphibian Battalion Peleliu and Okinawa . He was the gunner on LVT-A B-16 and is mentioned in the book Before the First Wave and went on to write the book The Private War of Doctor Yamada.

I guess that could be him. However, it seems quite a few people have that name. I wonder if there is a more or less simple way to verify which person the tags belonged to?

I believe this may be your guy

It's a bit more difficult with KW and later tags. The WWII NARA files that weren't destroyed are very helpful in confirming identities. Unless your guy was wounded and has a file on NARA you'd be hard pressed to confirm his residence/date of birth/service number. It's very likely him but you are correct, it is not 100% confirmed

Some amazing tags with amazing histories . The Col. Kohn grouping was especially interesting . Thanks to all who participated in this thread .

These are special because they belonged to my grandfather, Major Abner Jones Barnett of the US Army Medical Corps, and were worn in two World Wars.

Last one for now is Lt. Carl Sanford Carlson. He served as a doctor in the Medical Corps in China and the South Pacific during WWII and then served in Korea. He was an orthopedic surgeon in Knoxville, TN for almost 40 years and passed away at the age of 87.

Know this is an older post, but this is really neat. Love seeing local Knoxville stuff!

I like these early WW1 square tags. This set belonged to an Ohio soldier who served with the 2nd Ambulance Company, 1st Infantry Division and he has a super low serial #!
