"GREETINGS & SALUTATIONS!" The "ILLUSTRATED CATALOGUE of ARMS & MILITARY GOODS - Schuyler, Hartley & Graham" (1864) has some wonderful drawings of gold bullion epaulettes for the full dress uniforms of Army and Navy officers during the U.S. Civil War (War Between the States) and shows them for Second Lieutenant to a Major General and for Ensign to a Rear Admiral, along with branch insignia for Medical Staff, Ordnance, Pay Department, Topographical Engineers, etc. Obviously few officers wore their full dress uniform with fringed gold bulliob apaulettes except maybe at White House fu8nctions and after hostilities ceased? These epaulettes were worn until 1872 at which time only Generals in the Army wore them while Naval officers continued to wear them up to 1941. thumbsup.gif Sarge Booker of Tujunga, California ([email protected]) Pages 52 and 53 below.
