ram957 Posted March 7, 2013 Share #1 Posted March 7, 2013 This is being sold as a B-17 Pilots clock panel. The manuals I have access to show the upper right gauge as an Air Temperature Indicator not a Hydraulic Pressure Gauge. My manual also does't show the red Hydraulic Pressure Warning gauge. Is this panel from a later modification of a B-17 or from another plane ?
B-17Guy Posted March 7, 2013 Share #2 Posted March 7, 2013 Some manuals show the De-Icer Pressure gauge in that location, and some the Hydraulic Pressure gauge, with warning light below. The B17 is an all electric airplane, with only the cowl flaps and wheel brakes being hydraulicly operated. The wheel brakes get pressure from one electric pump that maintains pressure as needed. If the pump fails, the co-pilot must pump the hand pump like a mad man to maintain pressure, so the pilot can stop the airplane. This is probably why the gauge was changed to a Hyd Press gauge, so both pilots could easily notice a lack of Hyd Press, on a central panel above the windshield, before it was too late. Hope image is readable. Best, John
