checkit Posted March 5, 2013 #1 Posted March 5, 2013 This came with a small grouping of misc WW1 & WW2 photos . The sailor's name is on the back but his handwriting is rather tough to read. Anyway, was hoping someone might recognize the flag - an eagle with Japanese flags in its talons,.
TBMflyer Posted March 6, 2013 #3 Posted March 6, 2013 Don, that is the battle flag of the USS Snook SS-279, great image, Mark
checkit Posted March 9, 2013 Author #4 Posted March 9, 2013 Thanks, Mark for your help. Here are the complete photos. I can't make out the man's name, but it does not appear to be on the crew roster that was current when the sub was lost. His buddy is wearing a combat patrol badge - hard to see in the scan I made,
Flightpath Posted March 11, 2013 #7 Posted March 11, 2013 Nice bunch of guys........ Snook was credited with sinking 17 enemy vessels in her 8 patrols and two and one-half years of active service, she was lost april 1945 near Luzon........ tragic loss of a brave crew. -John
