BigJohn#3RD Posted March 6, 2013 Share #10 Posted March 6, 2013 I would assume that he was medically retired, possibly due to the wounds he received that earned him the Purple Heart. I look forward to hearing more about this pilot. Regards, John

decwriter Posted April 10, 2022 Share #12 Posted April 10, 2022 He died in 1967 and his grave marker reflects a BSM AM PH. He received the AM with one OLC, but NARA doesn’t reflect a BSM or PH card. What’s interesting is the PH is engraved with the AO prefix in his serial number, which was used in the mid-1950s after the AF became a separate branch in 1947. The AO denotes an AF reserve officer. The engraving is nice.
