1864 Shoulder Straps for Officers

"GREETINGS & SALUTATIONS!" The 1864 "Illustrated Catalogue of Arms & Goods" by Schuyler, Hartley & Graham showed some really fine line drawings of the shoulder straps for officers which indicated their ranks from Second Lieutenant to General-in-Chief, the latter was called Lieutenant General when full Generaql with four stars was created by the U.S. Congress for U.S. Grant. General-in-Chief. When the rank of full General with four stars was created by the Congress for U.S. Grant, three stars became a Lieutenant General. ermm.gif
