SergeantMajorGray Posted February 15, 2013 #1 Posted February 15, 2013 When I first got into helmets I always wanted one of these. Despite the fact that alot of people think this is the most ugly helmet ever and I know guys in the Navy hated wearing them it is my favorite helmet of WW2. Here is a shot of it with my collection.
SergeantMajorGray Posted February 15, 2013 Author #4 Posted February 15, 2013 As you can see it has the original paint which isnt that common when it comes to navy helmets. The liner is the tan style I have heard this is the more common type but no one really knows for sure. If you know more about these helmets feel free to post here also if you have one of these go ahead and post a picture I would like to add more to the reference section on this helmet type.
pump 150 Posted February 15, 2013 #5 Posted February 15, 2013 Nice Mk2. The only thing missing is the detachable chinstrap and they still seem to be easily available if you feel the need to complete it.

BOLO Posted February 15, 2013 #8 Posted February 15, 2013 I wonder if they ever used these as flak helmets in bombers during WWII? it would easily work with headphones, but probably too big and bulky for wearing inside aircraft looks like a nice helmet for a B-17 door gunner

I think they are a little to big for use in a aircraft but they would offer good protection.
BOLO Posted February 15, 2013 #10 Posted February 15, 2013 they were sometimes used by artillery crews in the Pacific during WWII
