Nkomo Posted March 6, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 6, 2008 Here is something that I picked up today from our local flea market. I don't know much about this item and was hoping someone could shed some light on the subject. From what I can tell the EGA are the 1937 pattern. The jump wing is up around the edges, but not up enough for me to look up underneath for a makers name. The bracelet is not marked and is fairly crudely made. THE EGA's and jumpwing are held on with a pin or a screw. That is all I know about this piece. Thanks for everyones help in advance! Arch

Nkomo Posted March 6, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted March 6, 2008 I don't know. but this bracelet doesn't look like a sweetheart piece. It is much more crudely made than the other sweetheart pieces I have in my collection. Also, the size of the bracelt looks a little too big to be for a woman's wrist. Any thoughts? Brig Posted March 6, 2008 Share #4 Posted March 6, 2008 I LOVEit! I'm sure CamoPara will love it, too. Looks to me like sweetheart bracelet made from possibly part of a Japanese Zero, by a Paramarine. Very nice find!
Nkomo Posted March 6, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted March 6, 2008 My wife really likes this piece as well. Several of her family members served in the USMC during World War II. Her family has a big tradition about serving in the Marines. Actually, many Navajo families have this tradition as well. Arch

camopara Posted March 6, 2008 Share #7 Posted March 6, 2008 That is very cool. I have a similar one that is named to the Marine parachutist.
Brian Keith Posted March 6, 2008 Share #8 Posted March 6, 2008 I would call this "trench art" not a sweetheart. It is a really nice item. BKW

Bob Hudson Posted March 6, 2008 Share #10 Posted March 6, 2008 This shape aluminum bracelet with an EGA shows up once in a while: I bought one on ebay last year just for the EGA. I think Brig has posted photos of one from his collection. I think it's just plain old aircraft aluminum, not any sort of Japanese zero remnants. bobgee Posted March 6, 2008 Share #11 Posted March 6, 2008 I LOVEit! I'm sure CamoPara will love it, too. Looks to me like sweetheart bracelet made from possibly part of a Japanese Zero, by a Paramarine. Very nice find! I think it's theatre-made from scrap aircraft aluminum, probably Japanese, with a Gyrenes para badge and egas to be worn by him. Bracelets worn by male military, particularly I.D. type, were very common during WWII. Nice find....too bad we've "lost" his name. Gary Cain Posted March 6, 2008 Share #14 Posted March 6, 2008 Looks like a nice piece! I would bet good money that it was a piece of spring steel that the insignia is affixed to and I would also agree that it is not a piece of sweetheart jewelry. That was made by the man himself for his own enjoyment and to show off his proud service! Gary
vicjoy1945 Posted March 7, 2008 Share #15 Posted March 7, 2008 Hey !! Great piece !! I've seen this done before...usually with A-11 Hack watches. I have one that was engraved and presented to General Ernest Moore who was the CG 7th Fighter Command and flew the first P-51 onto Iwo Jima. Great stuff !! CW4AFB Posted March 8, 2008 Share #16 Posted March 8, 2008 I posted pieces to what we think was a watch fob awhile back following the same techniques Gents---nice pictures and info---along this same line is a Marine made bracelet that was given to my mother ( Navy Pharmacist 3rd in the WAVES) while she was working in a hospital ward just before VJ day. She was told it was from the data plate taken off of a piece of Japanese equipment on one of the islands---your thoughts? generator, tractor, truck, aircraft?
