240th AHC Flight Helmet 1968

Recommended Posts

I posted this several years ago in another section on the forum before this particular forum was created. So for the newer guys on the forum that might have an interest in these flight helmets I thought I would bring it up again. I wore this while flying with the 240th Assault Helicopter Company (Greyhounds and Maddogs) out of Bearcat, RVN in 1968-1969. Flew over 800 combat hours that year in the UH-1C gunship.

Ah yes...I remember it well! Another "killer" helmet Terry (both literally and metaphorically!) ;)

"We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender!"

Winston Churchill

A couple pic related to this posting. The other side of my helmet bag with the 240th and 1st Aviation Brigade patches. My UH-1C at Bearcat 1968 and our crew chiefs and gunners in front of the "Maddog" armament shed. Our platoon motto was "VC for lunch bunch" and I must admit we had a lot of lunches. This was the finest bunch of young men in the world and saved my butt on many occasions during missions in Cambodia and the Delta.

Amazing helmet and bag, thanks for sharing!

Always interested in buying Vietnam-era Air Force, Army helicopter units, and Illinois veteran items.

Looking for items identified to Captain Charles M. Porter, Company C, 131st Infantry, 33rd Division AEF.
