rustywings Posted January 29, 2013 #26 Posted January 29, 2013 I have not researched this grouping, but it appears George Jewett reached the rank of Commander.
rustywings Posted January 29, 2013 #27 Posted January 29, 2013 Another Navy career man...Naval Aviator # 233-43.
rustywings Posted January 29, 2013 #30 Posted January 29, 2013 A couple of additional ID cards for the same Aviator were also in the leather wallet. The one marked "NAS B.R. Fla." is that reference to Boca Raton or Banana River?
rustywings Posted January 29, 2013 #31 Posted January 29, 2013 This "Pilot Qualification Card" was also inside J.D. Davis' ID wallet.
rustywings Posted January 29, 2013 #32 Posted January 29, 2013 Reverse of the 1951 dated "Pilot Qualification Card" indicating J.D. Davis could fly sixteen different type of aircraft.
rustywings Posted January 29, 2013 #33 Posted January 29, 2013 In 1942 Boone D. Tillett Jr. was employed by the War Department as a Flight Instructor at Maxwell Field, Alabama. In 1943 Boone D. Tillett Jr. became Naval Aviator # P357 with the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
rustywings Posted January 29, 2013 #34 Posted January 29, 2013 Contract Flight Instructor Tillett's civilian ID with the War Department.
rustywings Posted January 29, 2013 #36 Posted January 29, 2013 Three additional ID's for Tillett dating from 1943 through 1955. Note his rank advancement with the Marine Corps Reserve.

KASTAUFFER Posted April 1, 2013 Author #43 Posted April 1, 2013 Nice early one! Thanks for posting it, Kurt
B-17Guy Posted May 4, 2013 #44 Posted May 4, 2013 New one to add, NA #7441 Warren C. Hanchett, served 1940-1946, USNR, attained the rank of CDR. Looks like he was winged shortly before Pearl Harbor. Best, John
KASTAUFFER Posted April 5, 2014 Author #45 Posted April 5, 2014 Bringing this back up with a new ID This is a very scarce ID book to a USMC Radar Operator with a night fighter squadron.
rustywings Posted April 6, 2014 #46 Posted April 6, 2014 This is one of my favorite threads on the forum. I'm happy to see it revived from the archives. Why is it posted in the wing section? Well, every airman who was pinned with wings also received one of these identification booklets stating his/her aerial qualifications. Find an old grouping which includes wings and his identification book...and you've found traceable aviation history! Russ
Pete-o MSU Posted June 4, 2014 #48 Posted June 4, 2014 Inside. He was a hellcat pilot shot down in 43.
KASTAUFFER Posted June 4, 2014 Author #49 Posted June 4, 2014 Now I know who bought the DFC Nice group Pete! Kurt
Pete-o MSU Posted June 4, 2014 #50 Posted June 4, 2014 You mean this one I was the one who got it off ebay I really had no idea where the final price was going to end up. I have seen in the past what navy air medals sell for and I have a couple, I thought this would go higher. His log book which I wish I had and a great history on this airman's service can be seen here http://www.leisuregalleries.com/philippe.html Pete
