Camouflaged bib worn by Klaus Dieter Egolf who was later killed in action in Vietnam on January 28, 1968. He appears to be a drill instructor based on his Smoky Bear hat, but it looks like he is wearing a U.S. disc on his left lapel rather than a branch disc.

Interesting, not sure how he became a Drill Sergeant so quickly, as his datebase states service period at time of death 1 to 2 years of service. Could he have been a Shake & Bake, if so, did or could Shake & Bakes become Drill Sergeant after their NCO Training?

In any event Egolf was an 11 Echo, a Tanker, 3rd of the 4th Cav 25th Div.

Here is a picture of my father taken during Phase II (On The Job Training) of the NCO Candidate Course. Graduates of the first phase of the course at Fort Benning were assigned to basic training or AIT companies where they basically served as assistant drill sergeants although they were not graduates of the Drill Sergeants Course and as far as I know were not authorized to wear the Drill Sergeant Badge. My father was drafted in June 1967 and this picture would have been taken around March 1968 at Fort Gordon, Georgia. So here we have a Shake 'N Bake sergeant with only nine months in the Army wearing the Smokey The Bear hat of drill instructor.

PFC Steven Ray Segura, who was killed in action in Vietnam on March 1, 1969 while assigned to the 25th Medical Battalion, wearing an interesting assortment of accoutrements. His bib is presumably maroon for Medical Corps and the beret may be as well but the shoulder chord almost appears pink, although white is the color of Medical Corps piping so that is also a possibility. Also, I'm not sure what the DUI is on his beret or the the flash - it almost looks like a pre-Vietnam War 5th Special Forces flash worn upside down

Member of the 82nd Military Police Company wearing what appears to be a full-size 82nd Airborne Division SSI on his white bib.

Two shots of a soldier of the 24th Infantry Division wearing what is presumably an Infantry blue bib with the 34th Infantry Regiment DUI

Based on the sign, I assume this guy was a medic attached to the 19th Infantry Regiment. He appears to be wearing a Medical Corps maroon bib along with an Infantry blue shoulder chord on his wool shirt. Also note he is wearing the 5th Regimental Combat Team SSI as a combat patch.

1st Sergeant of the 1st Battalion 68th Armor wearing what I assume is an Armor green bib mid-70's. Also note the 8th Infantry Division Recondo badge on his breast pocket. Also, his DUI's seem to have a device atop the shield that is not present on the version shown by the Institute Of Heraldry.

That is an interesting picture.I think if anybody every saw somebody wearing this now they would call him a phony.

The beret flash looks upside down and has the old Medical Corps branch insignia, Conserve The Fighting Strength. He has a blue cord, Infantry, but is in the medical corps. The blue cards are of 11B soldiers/officers.His rank looks like Private.

This soldier served in the Adjutant General Corps but I'm not sure if that is what the bib represents since the AGC colors are dark blue with scarlet piping.

Unknown as to why he's listed only as a Pvt, as we clearly see he was over in Germany prior to being sent to Vietnam.

Italian Army uniforms. They are soldiers of the Italian Army. Parachute unit, I think, from the beret badges. SETAF, Southern European Task Force, is (or maybe was) headquartered in Italy.

Here's the same soldier wearing bib with the DUI's of the 20th Field Artillery Battalion and 77th Field Artillery Battalion while assigned to the 1st Infantry Division in Korea 1959 - 1960.

A rich color photo circa 1958 of a Artilleryman of the 2nd Howitzer Battalion, 5th Artillery, 7th Army Babenhausen, West Germany. Note the IKEs were still autherized for wear at this time, also note he appears to have Black Boots, which would of been standard no matter how out of place it looked with the OD IKEs.
