Lt. William Calley wearing the 11th Light Infantry Brigade SSI as a combat patch as opposed to the Americal Division.

Also note that he is not wearing any ribbons. I believe Army regulations at the time said that ribbons could not worn while a soldier was being court martialled but for some reason badges could.

Col. William Haight, commander of the Engineer Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, places a Sapper tab on the shoulder of a Co. B, 65th Engineer Bn. soldier Dec. 11, 2004 on Kirkuk Air Base, Iraq.

Nothing unusual about the 1st Infantry Division being worn as a combat patch except for the fact it is a full color Army green version being worn on a uniform with otherwise all desert subdued insignia. It would be interesting to see which version is on the other sleeve.

Click to view the full image and note one of the partially obscured soldiers further down the line is wearing a desert subdued 1st Infantry Division SSI as a combat patch.

Good one, now we have to find a 9th Logistical Command patch worn as a Combat Patch, or was this just a case of vets of the 9th Log Com wearing the U.S. Army Support Command,Thailand patch as a Combat patch instead?

What's a "Battlefield Surveillance" Brigade, a fancy modern new speak term for Infantry?

Nope, it's a new version of an Intelligence Brigade, designed to provide a commander with situational awareness in the AOR.

Had a feeling it had something to do with that. What are the primary MOS's for these type of units, Infantry or Intell?

Here is one of a Capt. in the 2nd Infantry Division during the Korean War receiving the DSC. He is wearing a 503rd Parachute for his combat patch.

Very interesting, an older captain, and a medical officer to boot, note the large Red Cross markings on the helmet.
