Sgt. David Hitt's Normandy M42 Helmet

Recommended Posts

David Hitt was from Virginia and, naturally, served in the 115th Regiment, 29th Division. He saw combat from D-Day until the end of the war. Somewhere along the line he sent a helmet home to his nephew. This helmet came onto the collector marker here in Arizona directly from Sgt. Hitt's nephew. What makes it special to me is that it also came with some of David Hitt's insignia and photos, and that its provenance remained intact. It is a M42 made by EF with an unreinforced liner band. The helmet has a thick, rough camouflage paint job that has subtle green and brown tints. The Army decal can be discerned peeking from under the camo. A true "Normandy camo" if ever there was one.

Not sure what the ECW disc is. I am hoping someone here might know.

According to the book "The Collar Disc Story" the ECW disc has not been identified.

This is really a nice grouping: a German Normandy helmet from a soldier who invaded Normandy.

Looking to buy D-Day and 101st/82nd related groupings
