....this is a nice complete M-42 that the soldier has added his division insignia and the places he passed through while overseas...maybe he was wounded and missed Belgium :huh:

That verges on being trench art.

 

How hard was it for a GI to carry around a German helmet during the war? Did that happen or did they pick them during occupation period when they less mobile?

Great helmet. This vet was AD and it was much easier to secure a captured helmet in the half track, tank or what ever vehicle you were assigned to. I asked my dad the same question. He was in the 17th AB and he said he had know interest in lugging around another helmet. But he did bring home a couple of nice pistols and some insignia:)
