mohawkALSE Posted January 15, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 15, 2013 Recently acquired a NOS Navy type LPU-21B/P life preserver. Still possessed both accessory pockets for the Dye Marker and Flares, and came unpacked. Fortunately I was able to find the corresponding NAVAIR manual on how to pack it and get it ready for display. I attached this LPU to a modified Army SRU-21/P survival vest like the TF-160 guys used to wear: Pic from the web showing the same vest and LPU being worn by MH-60L crewman aboard a USN carrier: Another pic showing the LPU-21 being used with the later ABA armor extraction vest used by the 160th:
northcoastaero Posted January 18, 2013 Share #2 Posted January 18, 2013 Nice photos of Army use of the LPU-21B/P. This life preserver unit evolved from the MK-6 and LPA-1 series from the late 1960s. The LPU-21/P series usually used in helicopters and P-3 Orion aircraft, and the LPU-23/P series used in ejection seat aircraft.
