Hello,

Here is my Sunday Punchers helmet. My guess is that the helmet was worn on the Kitty Hawk, during the 67/68 cruise.

Unfortunately one white disk on the side has been broken and I don't find replacement.

Hi Croc,

It is Weinstein. I have not found him on the cruise book, but any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Great! So that's him on the Vietnam database:

Name: WEINSTEIN ALAN IRA

Branch: NAVY

Rate: O03

Rank: LIEUTENANT

MOS: 1325

MOS Title: Unknown-Material Division Officer

Entered: 660816

Discharged: 711108

Service Number:

State: UNKNOWN

Race: CAUCASIAN

So, like you said, an early discharge in the end of 1971.

Thank you for the research.

The helmet appears to be a Gentex APH-6C or an earlier variant modified to APH-6C standards. The APH-6C has a dual visor assy.

and plastic earcups and the APH-6B has a dual visor assy. and foam/leather earcups. The boom microphone looks to be the

M-95A/UR.

I am also thinking of a modified version.

This is a close up of a VA-75 crew member's helmet. This particuliar helmet belonged to one of the 4 crewman who were KIA during the 67/68 cruise. The original photo appears into the NVA archives and on the only university of Texas virtual database. The dual visor system has been ripped off and the metal clip for the microphone is visible on top.
