I am researching a man who was attached to the above unit. I need a little help to determine what an Army Air Force Base Unit did. Also does anyone know what the 806th AAFBU did? I tried did not turn up much information via google, so any help is appreciated.

Sir,

It looks like they provided support functions for their base, which appeared to have been Baer Field, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

See for example, the unit history of the 88th Air Base Wing, which started out as the 4000 AAFBU in WWII and shows them as providing these functions. My best guess is that the 806 AAFBU served as similar function, of course-- without the records in front of me, it is only a guess:

A Baer Field history:

This website appears to have some records of that unit. I ran a search under "806 Army Air Forces Base Unit" and it came back with some hits:

If all else fails, the Air Force Historical Research Agency may be of some help in locating the unit's records:

I hope this is helpful for you.
