fiveodeuce Posted January 6, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 6, 2013 Hello, I just picked up this patch, and I have no idea what it is for, and I thought maybe someone out there would know what it is. It's a really cool patch and hopefully someone can identify it. Any help would be great. Thanks, James

fiveodeuce Posted January 9, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted January 9, 2013 one more try. Does anyone have a clue what this could be. Thanks, James
Steverino Posted January 9, 2013 Share #4 Posted January 9, 2013 OK, I'll offer a few comments. The patch looks to be a piece from the late 1918-early 1919 period, and is no doubt U.S.-made. The skull and bones are very close in design and manufacture to legit WWI 20th Div patches we own. In addition, one of the Infantry regiments assigned to the 20th Div was the 48th regiment. I am unable to understand the '12', however. Unless battalions for those very late divisions went by some odd numbering system, there should not be a 12th battalion in any regiment. However, the '48' could just be a coincidence along with the skull and bones, but I don't think so. I'll let someone else decipher the patch numbers and break the code on the '12.' Third Herd Posted January 10, 2013 Share #5 Posted January 10, 2013 The Sigma Phi Epsilon Frat had patches with skull and crossed bones on the but the chapter numbers don't go that high.

fiveodeuce Posted January 11, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted January 11, 2013 Thanks Guys, I appreciate the info. I didn't realize the patch could be from pre 1920, pretty interesting. James
