He was born February 2, 1986. He lived and attended school in Landisburg, Pennsylvania. Perry County. His brother was a Marine Grunt, and he too became a Marine Grunt, serving with 2/2. On October 6, 2005, at the age of 19, he was killed in Karmah, Iraq, when an Improvised Explosive Device exploded on his truck. He was the turret gunner, and the only KIA of the attack.

I met him in the Delayed Entry Program at the Carlisle, PA recruiting station. Due to a shoulder injury, he shipped to bootcamp later than he'd initially anticipated. Us Poolees often went out to eat after Thursday night functions. This is where I got to know him.

I was in Iraq on my first combat tour of duty when I received a care package from my father. He had packed it with crumpled newspaper. I noticed the obituary section from my home area. I was always interested in reading the local obits, to see what kind of military legacy was in my area right under my nose. I noticed a local casualty in Iraq and reread it, and realized it was none other than my friend. My First Sergeant counseled me through it, for an hour we talked in his hooch. A few days later her pulled me aside and asked how I was doing, and told me to never forget him. I never will. I still get emotional thinking about it, and still have a drink in his memory from time to time.

The Votech wing of his school and the main road through the county have been named in his honor. His girlfriend has made a site in his honor http://www.jasonfryeusmc.blogspot.com/

I met his mother and girlfriend over Christmas leave 2007. It was an emotional occurance, but I'm glad I got the chance to do so. Semper Fi, Frye, my friend, my brother. You will not be forgotten.

Over the past several years, Jason's parents have arrived to build a community center in his memory. They have put fortj tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket to purchase the land and have been slowly raising money for the building. The land is already open for Public use.

This Monday, 6 October 2025, on the 20tj anniversary of Jason's death, I will be conducting a solo ruck from the site of the recruiting center where Jason and I enlisted at the Carlisle Plaza Mall in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, to Jason's gravesite at the Mt Zion Lutheran Church in Landisburg, Pennsylvania.

I will be conducting a 20-mile route that takes me over Blue Mountain - 1 mile for each year he's been gone - in an effort to raise money to help Jason's parents Gary and Connie build a public community center in their son's memory. I have set a modest goal goal of $6,120 - $1 for each mile away from home Jason was when he fell - but am still well short of this goal at just over 50%.

In a sea of veteran charities, one this small tends to become white noise. Additionally, it is tough to raise money for a local cause when one is no longer local

The cause is a registered 501(c)(3). If anyone is interested in learning more, they can do so here... https://www.facebook.com/p/Jason-Frye-Memorial-Center-100069437348092/?_rdr

If anyone wishes to contribute, they can do so either by mile or lump sum through Monday here: https://app.99pledges.com/fund/RuckingforFrye/brig

My phone has been notifying me constantly for two days that donations have been coming in - much of them anonymous. If any of them are from forum members, it is much appreciated.

I step off in the morning. There's a few more hills than I recall growing up, but I'm sure I'll manage....

For those who may have contributed,

We had 43 donations from 42 donors, totaling $6405. After 99Pledges fees, that leaves $6160.40 for the charity...exceeding the $6120 goal.

Additionally, cash donations were received during the execution, bringing that total higher.
