Aloha Everyone,

I dug this out of my Schofield Barracks photo archive to show an example of the Specialist rank (mechanic) in contemporary use.

Private First Class, Specialist 6th Class Mechanic

Earl E. Parker, 10/02/1926

Headquarters Battery, 8th Field Artillery

Schofield Barracks, Territory of Hawaii

He is also wearing a No-So Hawaiian Division (24th) patch.

Wonderful photo. Looks like he spent some of that specialist pay on some tailoring: pretty snazzy long lapels on the service blouse!

Thanks a lot for posting,

Justin B.

...Looks like he spent some of that specialist pay on some tailoring...

A “1st and 6th” on his first hitch was paid $38 per month in 1926 ($35 as PFC plus $3 as specialist 6th class)…PFC Parker probably got terms from the post tailor to buy this fine looking uniform (or perhaps he was in hock to the Battery loan shark).

Thanks Salvage Sailor for posting another great Hawaiian Division picture.
