Are all military 1911 magazines marked or were some unmarked. I picked up a mag pouch with two well used mags in it that don't seem to have any marks on the spine or floor plate. One may have been two tone but the finish is so worn its hard to tell. These must have been stored in this pouch somwhere damp. Just wondering if there is an easy way to tell if they are military or not.

Make sure you check the top of the toe of the floorplate for markings. Many WWI/WWII era USGI magazines are marked there. This may also be of interest: http://coolgunsite.com/pistols/Magazines.htm

I have an original two-tone magazine that came with a September/October 1918 Pistol, and it is not marked. Everything I have read indicates that these were made by Colt. I agree with hink441 on this. The other contract magazines were marked. While it isn't perfect, I'd recommend purchasing a copy of

U.S. PISTOLS & REVOLVERS 1909-1945 by J.C. Harrison. I believe the magazines and contracts are discussed in that publication.
