hink441 Posted January 1, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 1, 2013 Here is a USS Wright PPO badge. It is labeled as CC-29. I can not find any info on this hull number. Anyone have some info on this badge??
MWalsh Posted January 1, 2013 Share #2 Posted January 1, 2013 I suspect it was a mistake and just supposed to be CC-2, or perhaps the 9 part was a numeric designator for a department, compartment, control number, etc for something from the Wright, which was in fact CC-2. An interesting ship, I had never heard of her before! http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/sh-usn/usnsh-w/cc2.htm MW

firefighter Posted January 1, 2013 Share #5 Posted January 1, 2013 I believe this is a Police Petty Officer Badge. If I am wrong, please let me know. That makes sense.Still don't know why the extra '9'.Unless it was just a mistake and we all know badge makers never make a mistake.
VMI88 Posted June 1, 2013 Share #6 Posted June 1, 2013 I just found one of these too: There's another thread discussing PPO badges, picturing a number of examples different ships. Post #3 shows two badges from the USS Wright numbered 2 & 4. Interesting that our two examples are numbered the same as those.

RustyCanteen Posted June 1, 2013 Share #8 Posted June 1, 2013 You know, I'm not sure about these. About 15-20 years ago someone was making ship badges that were pretty much identical. Some were military ships, some commercial, a lot of them totally fantasy badges. Not saying these aren't legit, but I am a little uncomfortable with them. VMI88 Posted June 1, 2013 Share #9 Posted June 1, 2013 Not saying these aren't legit, but I am a little uncomfortable with them. I am too, but it was cheap enough to take a chance. It seems like an odd thing to fake though - there can't be much of a market for them.
hink441 Posted June 1, 2013 Author Share #10 Posted June 1, 2013 Nice badge. Did you happen to get yours in Williamsburg? I purchased mine in a Williamsburg antique store. The dealer had a couple of them for sale. Chris
