Very cool.I have only seen pictures of these in SAC book's.I was in TAC & PACAF but always like the stars and bar that SAC used. What is MCCC for, Missile combat command Commander?

The SAC emblem and the blue band with white stars, especially when used on missiles and aircraft was called the "SAC BANDAID"

The missile silo hat hats were color coded for the persons job. I think blue was Operations, I have a list of colors someplace. I have two that I found in the toys at thrift shops years ago.

Correct blue were for launch command and operations, pretty sure red fire control, White is for branch officers squadron commanders etc, and green maintenance and tech.

From 1961 to 1964 Dad was MCCC at plattsburg AFB. He was in the 556th SMS . The 04 on his helmet was his silo number, his I believe was in Vermont, even though the base was on lake Champlain in NY.

These were Atlas F ICBMs , the last of them. As they were mothballed in 64, 65. Dad was on alert there during the Cuban Missile Crisis.Hevakso held the last command of an Atlas F at Plattsburg and the last command for the 556th SMS, as they were retired after dad handed over the last Atlas to civilian authorities. There was a base paper called the Champlainer with a photo of him wearing this helmet  standing over command.

Dad was promoted right after to Major and posted to Malmstrom AFB in Montana .

He became an authority on the Minuteman 3, and represented the 371st wing at the Olympics at Vandenberg AFB IN 69.

Notice the old style pocket rocket. After mothballing the Atlas they changed the pocket rocket and launch crews no longer wore helmets only maintenance crews did because minutemen missiles had a LCF launch control facility above ground .
