Johnny Signor Posted December 16, 2012 Share #2 Posted December 16, 2012 It has a "Glider" pilot pin near it, was this pin related to the patch , or just displayed with it ????????????????
Sjef Posted December 16, 2012 Share #3 Posted December 16, 2012 This design has been discussed on this forum before. I think about a year ago. I can't remember if we were able to nail it at that time. Some how it strikes me as a Navy or Marines design rather than AAF.
1perazzi Posted December 16, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted December 16, 2012 I got a box of stuff and this was in it. The glider wing is British made and there was a group of items to the man, he was a mechanic in a P47 group 9th AF. A couple of odds and ends German items too. His group didnt have a patch like this (The Thunder Bums) and how the wings got added I dont know. Thanks Mike
Johnny Signor Posted December 16, 2012 Share #5 Posted December 16, 2012 It could possibly be a "personal" emblem , not actually "squadron" related, or of the nose art on one of the P-47's if it was from the "Thunder Bums" , without any background it makes it very difficult to possitivly ID something like this one . A lot of unit made patches "Unofficially" for thier units also, it could be for one of the squadrons or the Group itself and just was never "popular" enough and only one or a few ever made .
