Fausto Posted December 15, 2012 Share #1 Posted December 15, 2012 Hi Guys! Here a strange Nasco 1942 pistol belt. All correct and nice but... no magazine pouch snap... What do you think? Just a mistake in manufacturing, missed by inspectors? Or...? Thanks! Fausto
Fausto Posted December 15, 2012 Author Share #2 Posted December 15, 2012 and here the above belt compared to another Nasco with the snap and an unfinished filled web buckle...
artu44 Posted December 15, 2012 Share #3 Posted December 15, 2012 Mmmmmm if it would'n have dated 1942 I could think to a 36/56 transiction for alice clips as the "tipped buckle male" in the pic and if would an M1912 to a medic officer from 1932 8the bottom one). Being the only one known, chances are strong it could be a mistake. BTW Filled web female are not unfinished but cast as they are (maybe they saved on die cost). Most of YALE show such a buckle. Big Al Posted December 15, 2012 Share #4 Posted December 15, 2012 Maybe it was rejected because the US stamp was so far off.
Fausto Posted December 15, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted December 15, 2012 Yes, it is a good guess, but I would incline to think to an omission in manufacturing process which escaped the inspector's controls... After all there is plenty of issued pistol belts with misplaced and sometimes reversed U.S. stamp... If I remember well a fellow guy posted years ago a WWII picture of an U.S. general with an U.S. reversed stamp pistol belt... and to make the U.S. legible he wore the belt upside down with the mag. pouch snap on the right side instead of the left... Anyway, here two pistol belts with reversed stamp... Both by Nasco... Maybe this firm didn't pay much attention to the details... Fausto
Big Al Posted December 16, 2012 Share #6 Posted December 16, 2012 I had that possibility in my mind as I was typing. But I was thinking since it is a 1942 dated belt, maybe the belt was made when the inspectors were more stringent in their requirements, or something along those lines. Just my $0.
robinb Posted December 16, 2012 Share #7 Posted December 16, 2012 I have 3 variations of pistol belts with no snaps, or markings.
Fausto Posted December 16, 2012 Author Share #8 Posted December 16, 2012 Interesting belts, Robin ! So I guess that unmarked and missing the snap ones are not so rare... Anyway I wonder if some were made for specific purposes: I mean for musicians or so... Fausto
