Got da Penny Posted February 25, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 25, 2008 Who Knew..?? I had the Fortunate opportunity to attend the IWO JIMA yearly ceremony for Franklin Sousley in Elizaville, Ky today. CLICK HERE FRANKLIN SOUSLEY I was invited to go last year from the WW2 Marine i interviewed 2 yrs ago. but, was unable to attend. This year was different, i was told to meet the marines in the Red van. and about an hour later we pulled into the local VFW, where we has soup & sandwitches. There was an hour of speeches and dedications to fellow WW2 marines who were on Iwo Jima during that famous battle. I had the pleasure of sitting across from an Iwo vet who was part of the 1st wave. the amazing thing about him was, The group he was attached to had a 98% casualty rate. This was a very exciting and a very "Humbling" experience. I was in a state of " Im a lucky SOB".. im thinking to myself......... How many Historians actually get a chance to be involved like i was today. ??? Especially with a GREAT bunch of Marines, mostly ww2 veterans. Below are pics i took today.
