Highest on the list of medals the General received was his second Distinguished Service Medal. This is the only other
medal that I have that is complete as to how it was presented. Enjoy!

WOW - in the last 26 years of collecting, I've only seen a couple of "complete" 4 star general's groups...and I consider myself lucky to have just SEEN them! This is absolutely amazing! I can't wait to see more!

I don't know what to say but thank you. As I go through my Uncle's artifacts, I am learning so much more about what an amazing guy he was. He did save a lot of things but as I say there was also items given away over the years but I am quite happy with what I have here and will do my best to present it to this fantastic Forum.

I am truly blessed to have been given the honor of caretaker of General Chesareks memorabilia. Thanks again, Bob

While we are on the subject of medals, I took some photos of the Generals miniature medals. I plan to display them on his beautiful mess dress blues.

Here is a silk map of France and surrounding countries that belonged to my Uncle. Any ideas on how to flatten it? It has been folded for years
and I would like to frame it possibly. I am afraid to iron it, what about steam? Thanks for your replies. Bob

I mentioned the other day that the first uniform that I plan to display will be the Generals dress mess blues.
Here is just a few quick pics until I can make a proper presentation complete with all his miniature medals. Bob

You have some very rare medals and orders in the shadow box. The Korean and the China order of the Cloud and Banner to name a few. Congrats.

Thank you for sharing your family history.

My pleasure Larry.

I hope that everyone has found something of interest here and I am continuing to

unpack boxes and figure out how to display all of these great items. Bob

On this post I will show some more of the artifacts that go along with the Generals career.

Here is a hand made wood herald that my Uncle received during his term as Chief of Staff of the Southern European Task Force
around 1960 while he was stationed in Italy. He was also awarded the Order of the Republic medal by the Chief of Staff of the Italian Army.

Dress blue uniform hat and Mess dress shoulder knots.

In 1959 General Chesarek was assigned to the US Army Communications Zone in Europe where he served as Chief of Staff.
He was given this nice plaque.

Below is his WW2 issued Officers pistol belt and holster. The holster is smaller than a 1911 size. Any ideas what was carried in it?

On 10 March 1969 Ches was promoted to the rank of full General and was assigned to the position of Commanding General,
US Army Material Command. In 1993 long after he had retired he received this little card and pin.

Lastly for today, a shot of a prized stein. ENJOY!

It is incredible that someone in your family kept this all together.

How did that happen ?

Thank you for your question. I believe that my Uncle saved almost everything partly because of his upbringing

in a lower middle class family of immigrants where you valued anything you earned or were given

and also later on for the fact that he loved the military and being an officer and finally a general of the US Army.

Then you have the fact that his second wife Joan, whom he married after his first wife Jayne passed away due to

illness, was and is a great collector in her own right and in the roughly 20 years since Ches's passing, God bless her, didn't touch

a thing in his office of their home and kept everything just as it was until I flew out to California for Thanksgiving, spent 3 full days packing it all up

and loading it into a van for the 2500+ mile drive back to PA. In a nut shell, that is how this all came to be. Bob
