artu44 Posted December 2, 2012 Share #7 Posted December 2, 2012 OD7+ brass buckle= post WWII. Being used just for garand clips it doesn't need strippers separator.
'Flage Guy Posted December 2, 2012 Share #8 Posted December 2, 2012 Yup, what Artu said. They started eliminating the retainer strips in late 1944 or early 1945, but the brass hardware does signify a post-War Belt. A nice one, I might add... Big Al Posted December 2, 2012 Share #9 Posted December 2, 2012 The Springfield clip retaining straps were eliminated from Army belts, but USMC contract belts retained them after WWII to the end of their procurement.
craig_pickrall Posted December 2, 2012 Share #10 Posted December 2, 2012 Here are 1944 dated belts with the strap and also brass hardware and 1950 and 1953 dated belts without the straps. I have a set of specs for the cartridge belt. I am off now to check and see if the date the strap was dropped is recorded in those specs.
craig_pickrall Posted December 2, 2012 Share #11 Posted December 2, 2012 I forgot to add this. As late as 1955 the USMC still had the straps on their cartridge belts.
craig_pickrall Posted December 2, 2012 Share #12 Posted December 2, 2012 The spec I have is dated 25 APR 1951 and there is no mention made of the clip retainer strap. My spec replaced one dated 1949 and it is possible that was the spec where the strap was deleted.
Fixbayonets! Posted December 2, 2012 Share #13 Posted December 2, 2012 I have this U.S. Army transitional 1945 dated Harian cartridge belt that was manufactured without the retainer straps. I bet the army started to drop the retainer straps at some point in 1945. Rob

Garandy Posted December 3, 2012 Author Share #16 Posted December 3, 2012 Is there any possibility then the darker OD7 color, and brass buckles could have been manufactured before August 1945? Too bad the date is unreadable..Artu44 seems to think post WW2, is that late 1945, or Korea/Viet Nam? Are the specs written in stone?

One are USMC belts (see Pickrall's collection) OD7 brass buckle but wartime and also occasionally few US belts made OD7 but with left over 1942 buckle.
