Tiger Stripes Part II

Hitting the edge of this time-frame came the tadpole............

Early colors are way different from the silver mid war prints.

The brown and green are both present with a green base.

Like I said ..........with more factories making the cloth ,things began to change , colors and fabric almost took on a life of their own with extreme manufactures variations becoming the norm.

Gone were the days of a single large size stripe pattern ..........and in came the Golds.....

This pattern had many different colorways , none for seasons but simply put, different dye lots using different dyes.

This makes some of the nicest of the tiger patterns.

The cloth is Always soft to the touch, the print Vat dyed.

here is a chocolate Gold print ......on a mint shirt.

This is similar to "the clash' print.

Ok folks, I recently purchased these trousers and thought I would put them up for discussion. The photos are from the collector from whom I purchased them, so if you need better detailed photos, let me know! I asked one of our forum members who knows much more than I do (or will) about Vietnam uniforms and he felt that they were the silver pattern. The only detail that I can add is that they have a HAMA zipper. Were HAMA zippers used? I thought it was primarily YKK.

Thanks to everyone for providing their input on these trousers! What an amazing amount of knowledge we have on this forum.

Owen, Thank you for posting an incredible reference!

Some very nice tigers!

The shirt in post #978 is definitely a repro!

All the other ones are legit!

Like you sait post #974 is a Thai pattern, #976 a leightweight pattern (Late War lightwight Dense *LLD*)

The shirt in post #980 is called ARVN classic (Advisor's Type Dense *ADD*) its not a real gold pattern but looks a bit close to it!

Thanks for posting your tigers!

Mike

here are some detail photos for the post 980:

like Mike told

this pattern is called PURPLE or ARVN Classics/Advisor's Type Dense (ADD)

#1 mint: "brown dominated" -> #5 faded: black stripes faded into purple,

#2 mint: "brown dominated" -> #6 faded: black stripes faded, but not purple,

#3 mint: "green dominated" -> #7 faded: black stripes are still black

#4 mint: "green-grey dom." -> #8 faded: black stripes faded, maybe purple or like Johnson's book page: 136

Here is something I have never seen before ................

A classic ARVN set unissued and in the issue bag.

At this years SOS in Kentucky I seen a set behind a table and asked to see it .

The dealer was really pissed off and would not show it to me complaining about someone who had just came along and ripped the bag open and pulled out the shirt !!!!

Well after much talking I managed to get the set from him and after taking this picture, carefully put the shirt back into the now opened bag as close as possible .

Long story ......but whats the big deal?

Well the set is printed upon the Japanese brushed cotton only ever found on gold suits !!!!

In 30 years I have not EVER seen this and I believe no one has either .

Its beyond cool .

I am sure there is more out there , there has to be right ?

B20 you are right Sir , its the gold print .....but also the ARVN classic .

Anyhow ...........heres a picture of the shirt before it went back in the bag , luckily the pants remained unopened .

Great set owen!

Today its very hard to find tiger in orginal issue bags and indeed very unusual to get one made out of this soft type brushed cotton!

I never seen on of those before!

but if I'm not wrong it's a repro, isn't it?

BA,

your shirt is the same re-production run like the early Tigerstripe Productions (TSP) uniform we told about on post #746 until #821.

The BLACK-STRIPES and its CONSTELLATION on the backside of YOUR shirt, is correct printed, BUT

if you see the right sleeve, there is the "wrong" part again.
