Hi all,

My girl friend is trying to start up a WAVE impression. We are trying to recreate the uniform that my Great Aunt wore. She was a Yeoman 1c. I have a few questions. Can anyone point me in the direction to find reproduction or original ties, hand bag, and shirts. Also, I have seen one source that says that only CPOs and higher wore gold buttons on their dress blues is this true?

Thanks

I have no idea where to get reproduction WAVE uniforms. But, gold bullion IN THE NAVY (rules differ in Coast Guard) was worn by any one whohad served 12 years good conduct. During WW 2, the WAVES had not exsisted long enough for any one to rate gold.

Does anyone have, or know where to get just the skirt? Maybe a good reproduction? I need a size 3 , but something that could be made smaller would be fine. Same with Service stripes. I need one stripe, but can't seem to find anyone that makes them.

Hi,

I've only seen WAVES uniform reproductions being made by Warhorse and Reproductions of History located in the UK. Here's the website: http://www.warhorseandreproductionsofhistory.com/2.html But usually people don't recommend them because you have to wait for 6 months or longer. They themselves say that they have a heavy demand for uniforms and orders for any new uniforms cannot be taken....

I guess you'll find a skirt on eBay sooner. As far as I know they show up regularly - the last time I've seen one was in October and it was sold for about 50$.

However, I found WAVES purses for sale, both original and repro:

Original, complete with wallet: http://www.ebay.com/...=item1e752310d4

Repro: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item519c75ffd1

If I'll see any skirts, I'll let you know!

Were service stripes awarded based on time in service, or overseas time? I have read one thing that says that they did not earn stripes during the war (which I know to be true), but my aunt served for 5 years, did that qualify here for a service stripe?
