gap Posted November 23, 2012 Share #1 Posted November 23, 2012 I recently acquired the dog tags of a WW2 vet, along with a few other pieces of memorabilia. The tag has type 2 format, i.e. next of kin information as well as religious preference. It appears to be monel as it has a yellowish tinge. However, the soldier's name appears like a type 4 dog tag, i.e.last name, first name, middle initial. Anyone have any ideas?
bellasilva Posted November 23, 2012 Share #2 Posted November 23, 2012 I have several like that. I'm sure the Quartmasters (I believe they stamped the tags) made many honest mistakes, as the type changed a few times.
Squad leader Posted November 23, 2012 Share #3 Posted November 23, 2012 If I remember well, there was no regulation as to how the name was to be stamped before July 1943. That's the reason why tags from early period are to be found with first name first or last name first. Dan.
