MattOravik Posted January 13, 2007 #1 Posted January 13, 2007 This antique barn I go to has a metal pack saddle the owner said he thought was from WWI. I've never seen one so I have no idea. I didn't look to good for markings but will next time I go. I was wondering if anyone has one or has pictures of one I could use for reference? Would it even be army issue or did they use civilian? -Matt.
robinb Posted January 13, 2007 #2 Posted January 13, 2007 The Army used the M1924 Phillips Pack Saddle into the 1950's. There are something like 11 variations in sizes, but they all look alike. Here are 2 of my 3 Phillips saddles. The one on the horse is a Cavarly model, and the one on the floor is the Cargo model. There are a lot of foriegn pack saddles around. Many are Swiss.
