willysmb44 Posted November 17, 2012 Share #12 Posted November 17, 2012 Good displays but two things popped out to me right away The copy of "The Brass Ring" was included in a footlocker display, but Mauldin wrote the book a long time after the war. That Glenn Miller 'A-2' was made by Avirex in the 1980s and it's not even a WW2 design for the jacket itself. Folks are going to think that's an original... arnhem_art Posted November 17, 2012 Author Share #13 Posted November 17, 2012 Hi Willysmb, I am certainly not a knowledgable collector, but the Avirex copy is very obviously different from this A2. If you meant this A2 replica, that is currently for sale on ebay, I do believe the jacket in the temporary vet display is the real deal..here's a pic of the Avirex "tribute"jacket to compare
manayunkman Posted November 17, 2012 Share #14 Posted November 17, 2012 Awesome display. How did you come across it ? The Glenn Miller jacket in the display is not an A2. They did not have a seam down the back, nor was there a seam at the elbow and the shoulder seam is in the wrong place. And it looks like the Avirex Copyright under the word TOUR. It does make a great display however and to the general public..well they won't know the difference.
arnhem_art Posted November 17, 2012 Author Share #15 Posted November 17, 2012 Now I am more knowledgable than 10 minutes ago! Thanks, Willys and Man! I was in LaGrange to find antique car parts, and visit a hamburgerplace called "Josephs" that is located there since the 1930's..After the seconde burger, we walked around the block, to stumble upon this little gem of a local exhibit. I just photographed the brochure with all information.

manayunkman Posted November 17, 2012 Share #17 Posted November 17, 2012 AA, Do you live in the US or NL ? I thought NL Nice brochure. I've done many talks but never charged. If I had I'd probably would have been talking to myself Looks like they are set up in an old bank. Sure hope they have good security. M
arnhem_art Posted November 17, 2012 Author Share #18 Posted November 17, 2012 No, in NL. But somehow, my whole family moved to the US the last 25 years..they forgot about me and left me behind. But they let me visit say every 6 months.. By the way, there was no security whatsover, and there was also lots of German items (I did not include them) , but I do not think they had more than 5 visitors a day.. manayunkman Posted November 17, 2012 Share #19 Posted November 17, 2012 I saw the SS late war jacket. It's worth about 6 to 8,000. And everything is out in the open. Doesn't look safe to me. Not to change the subject but why did they leave ?
