Hi everyone. I picked this up the other day and have done a little research and have came up empty handed. I was hoping that someone knew what this piece of ordnance was. Thanks

I'm no ordnance specialist but that looks like some sort of an RPG or anti-tank round.

As mentioned before it is a bazooka head and a rifle grenade tail that someone painted yellow.

Bazooka round tails have fins that quite often get bent up.

I have not seen one listed in a manual but on the web they are referred to as M13 Practice rifle grenades.. however, I have only seen them painted black before. I suspect it is just a fantasy round (grenade/bazooka),

Actually, I think this one is the real deal. By that I mean it's an example of the M10 rifle grenade intended for use with the Browning .50 M2 machine gun. The program was in the 1041-1942 period and preceeded the M1 bazooka. When the idea didn't work out, the warhead developed for this rifle grenade was attached to a rocket motor to become the T1, and later M6, HEAT rocket for the bazooka.

The M13 was the black painted practice version but this appears to be a genuine M10 grenade. It is a GREAT find and yeah, I really want to own it. Thanks for posting it.

The head is almost assuredly the warhead section of an M6/M6A1 2.36 inch bazooka round. Doing some scale measurements with calipers, the tail is wider in diameter than the warhead so it would not fit into a 2.36 inch launcher. It appears that someone mashed an M6 warhead with the tail fins of something else... maybe a shortened 3.5in rocket tail fin?

Dirt Detective

Is there any way you can post some pics of the head removed? I wonder if the head has the cone inside and would like to see some close ups of the tubes firing chain. Good closeups of the area where the head connects to the tube.

  • 3 weeks later...

The early bazooka rounds were round nose so the "Rifle grenade" would also be round nose the pointed nose came out later as a bazooka round......

also by that time yellow paint had been dropped....

The earlier M6A1 (HEAT) and M7A1 (Practice) Series Rockets had the pointed nose. The later M6A3 (HEAT) and M7A3 (Practice) Series Rockets had a rounded nose designed to address deflection problems on angled surfaces.

Member Ordnance properly ID'd this in Post #8 as an early (and scarce) US M10 Grenade.

Thanks for the update. Once Rick identified it as a legitimate M10 I believed it was the real deal. It had all the right characteristics and color of being real but I had not seen what I thought was a real one. I'll have to check out my TM's again.
