ww2imp Posted December 11, 2015 Share #26 Posted December 11, 2015 The 'shrimp' net... Allegedly worn by the 517th PRCT, 3ID, ... The above net was the US manufactured netting issued to GIs along with an elastique helmet band in a bag with instructions. It was a "woven" production style much cheaper and faster to produce than the earlier British "knotted" shrimp style netting that was very common in the British seafood industry of the 1930s and 1940s. The US netting had a chemical treatment to prevent mildew but was not nearly as "tacky" as the british shrimp netting which used an organic almost lacquer finish. Ask anyone who has handled a large stack of the british netting how they stank!
UPNATM Posted December 12, 2015 Share #27 Posted December 12, 2015 How about the small mesh, two-tone, vehicle "shrimp net" cut up and used by the 3rd Div. in Italy?
