Outstanding day at Aldbourne, very proud of the troops who mustered for this, especially Neil and Dane who stepped in to parade the Divisional Colors and Item Company Guidon, you would of not known they had not trained with the Honor Guard before, a cracking Job. Peter performed like a Veteran, I did not ask him if there were any problems this time and there was not in any case and was a very worthy custodian of the National Colors.

It was good to have Stretch back in the team who paraded the 509th Guidon in honor of the Inspecting Officers first active duty outfit.

We had Kelz and Becky sorting the music and taking pics, so a special thanks to the Ladies for the support.

The Veteran Honor guard members, Ben, Possum and now JJ, took it all in their stride with responsibility for providing the Sentries and 506th HQ Guidon.

Steve spent some time in the pulpit and was the link between the church and the Honor Guard.

Top job done by all.

Hopefully we will be able to provide as good a quality Honor Guard in Leicestershire next year for the 325th and 507th Memorial unvailings.

Great day, a personal thanks to all for the support. It was great to be working with the Screaming Eagles on this event, without their organising and inviting of American Active service personel this event would never have taken place. Hope to be buddying up again in 2013 at Littlecote.

Now it really is a bit of a rest for all before Stoneleigh 2013

Buddy of mine overheard some hairhead at Starbucks complaining about downtown being closed for memorial day...

That being said, the turnout for the VETERANS' DAY PARADE which so inconvenienced the above mentioned rocket scientist has a pretty good turnout!

Looks great, just curious why the nearest person in the color guard isn't armed? That's what you would normally expect, either with a rifle of a holstered sidearm...

In Church!

I asked quite sometime ago on this forum and a couple of other US forum for advice on this protacol and all said no weapons inside Church.

For the Muster and Parade of the Division Colors on the Village Green before the laying up of the Colors in the Church, the Color Guard were armed with M1 Rifles.

Regards

AMERICAN VETERANS DAY MEMORIAL SERVICE ALBOURNE

Members of the groups FAAA Honor Guard, including new members to the organisation spent an outstanding day at Aldbourne. I am very proud of the troops who mustered for this, especially new troopers to the group, Neil and Dane who stepped in to parade the 101st Divisional Colors and Item Company Guidon, you would of not known they had not trained with the groups Honor Guard before, a cracking Job. Young Peter performed like a group Honor Guard Veteran, I did not ask him if there were any problems this time and there was not in any case and was a very worthy custodian of the National Colors.

It was good to have Stretch back in the team who paraded the 509th Guidon in honor of the Inspecting Officers first active duty outfit.

The Veteran Honor guard members, Ben, Possum and now JJ, took it all in their stride with responsibility for providing the Sentries and 506th HQ Guidon.

Steve representing the groups Chaplain spent some time in the pulpit and was the link between the church and the Honor Guard. Steve read the 101st Prayer which we hope went down well with the attending American Officers, especially LTC Houston a former 506th PIR Officer and senior Officer attending the service.

LTC Mark Houston graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1995. Following Officer Basic, Scout PLT Ldr, Airborne and Ranger Schools he was assigned to the 1st BN, 509th Parachute Infantry at the Joint Readiness Training Centre and Ft Polk, Louisiana where he served as PLT Ldr, BN Scout PLT Ldr and BN Air Officer. He then attended Aviation Captains Career Course and CAS3, and was assigned to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii as a BN Staff Officer and Rifle Company Commander. He was selected to attend Texas A&M University earning an MBA and was assigned to West Point as an Academy Admissions Commander for the Far West U.S. Following CGSC at Ft Leavenworth, Kansas.

LTC Houston was assigned to the 2nd BN, 506th Infantry 101st Airborne (Air Assault) Div as the BN XO. He recently completed a 1-yr tour to Eastern Afghanistan where he served as Task Force XO, S-3 and Commander.

All in all a top job done by all and appreciated by the American servicemen and their families.

Hopefully we will be able to provide as good a quality Honor Guard in Leicestershire next year for the 325th and 507th Memorial unveilings.

Before the morning muster in Aldbourne, the author took time out to visit the site of the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment(509th Parachute Infantry Battalion) base camp and 101st Airborne Division Jump School at Chiltern Foilet. The above pictures would not have been umlike what the Paratroopers would have seen on a cold winters morning in England during their stay here.
