"GREETINGS & SALUTATIONS!" How often did you find these smaller size rates and think they were for a girl's middy? Actually they were worn on the right sleeve of the uniforms of United States Navy seamen recruits in training at Boot Camp. They came in both white on blue as well as blue on white for Cadet CPO. Cadet lst Class PO, etc. Sarge Booker of Tujunga, California ( [email protected] )

Note how in the very early years, around 1917, the eagle sat directly on the specialty mark (square knot, or ex-apprentice knot), this is why these rating badges are sometimes referred to as Ex-Apprentice rating badges, and not "recruit petty officer, or boot camp rating badges".

I'd like to have more research on the white chevrons...USCG recruit or "middy blouse" rating badge??
