I got this plotting board many years ago from an auction in Enola, Pa.

The man was a pilot of a spotter plane on the USS Minneapolis.

Here is a photo of a spotter plane from the Minneapolis that I got from the WW2 image gallery.

What kind of plane is this and did the Minneapolis ever get Kingfishers ?

That would be a Curtiss SOC-1 Seagull , they went up to a number 4 in the series , but bascially it's the "Seagull" . If you know the ships "hull number" you shousl be able to look up her history and find if they ever got the Kingfisher .

I checked several sites but nothing was mentioned about the planes.

I am really too busy to have time to really figure it out and frankly it was just a curiosity.

Thanks for the ID though.

That's interesting, almost looks like a time-capsule.

I haven't really looked at this closely nor have I looked at all the maps.

Thanks for the comment Rusty

That is a very cool item! Love it!

I have this negative...one of the survivors of the CA-44 gave me this along with another negative (of the SOCs he worked on aboard the Vincennes). The man who gave this to me was an aviation mechanic for the SOCs.

That photo would make the unit they were with on the ship < Crusier Scouting Squadron Six "CS-6" , great photo as it shows the ship's name and the unit on it's fuselage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks!

Several of the PacFleet cruisers' SOCs were from Scouting Six.

Yeah , there hasn't been a book , at least that I've seen that lists all these types of aircraft and the crusiers/battleships they were assigned to , it would make a very interesting topic and book I'm sure a lot of Navy avaiation historians would enjoy !

The pilots name is Esgn. Hanlin.

His son was at the auction and I got his Vietnam River Forces stuff ( Sold 99% of my Nam groupings before 2010 so it is gone )

Great item. Looks like he just threw it in his suitcase & said "I'm outta here".

Hate to say this, but if you ever decide to part with it, please keep me in mind.

Great item and well preserved. I believe Squadron/Signal Publications has books on floatplanes, navy air units, and navy air colors. Hope this helps.
