The three bullion here were allegedly made in England for a LT after the D-Day invasion. Just the story, so bah that. That leather one was once sewn, and was meant for the flight jackets

I have finished mt 2nd LT, 1st LT and CAPT so far so I thought I would get them posted.

All of these pics were taken on a background grid. The squares are 1/4".

First up is decals used for helmets or what ever else they would stick to. Time period is a guess but probably did not date to pre WW2. I would guess about 1943 until late 1950's or very early 1960's. I'm not sure when the adhesive backed tranfers first came out but they pretty much replaced this type decal.

Bullion examples. While bullion was used long before WW2 I suspect all of these examples were made / used between WW2 and the mid 1950's. These example are on Shade 56 elastique except for the one 1st LT that is on Tropical Worsted wool.

These examples on poplin material date from WW2 to 1956. They were used on Officer Trench Coats, various parkas and other field coats.

This 2nd LT example is made like bullion except there is no wire in the insignia.

Cotton material in khaki with embroidered insignia. These were for use with the khaki uniforms and OS caps. These date from WW2 until the khaki uniforms were dropped from use.

OD 107 cotton material with embroidered insignia. These date from 1969 until replaced by the new uniforms just recently. Note on all of the previous CAPT bars the small piece tying the two bars together were flush with the ends of the bars. On these subdued insignia the small piece has been moved from the end to where it is slightly recessed.

2nd LT desert subdued (example received 1992)

I have no idea which era these are from. They are obviously not a matched pair. They were in my uncle's cache of ribbons, uniform buttons and other devices.

The shape indicates those are Navy lieutenant's bars -- they're a slightly different design than Army/Air Force captain's bars..
