hhbooker2 Posted February 18, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 18, 2008 1913 United States Navy metal rank and branch insignia was the title of an article I wrote and illustrated in 1989 for the now defunct Phoenix Exhange Magazine, here is the first of four pages for your reading enjoyment. In 1913 they replaced the rank mark (shoulder board) and not long afterward replaced them, but it did give rise to metal rank and branch insignia picked up again later by the United States Navy.
