This is a very hgh quality Japanese Gold and Silver inlaid iron box made in Japan in the early 50's for a member of VMF-323 " The Death Rattlers " . The Rattlers flew Corsairs in WWII and Korea . The name given to me for the owner of this box is James R. Ebert who earned a DFC over Korea .

This type of work is a carryover of the skills used to make Samurai Sword fittings . Once swords were no longer needed, the craftsmen who made them used their skills to produce items such as this .

Kurt: There is a local film producer here who produced a video on that group for a past reunion and I believe they are having a reunion here in Va this year.

Is there anyway to get a copy of the video? I have two different groupings for the 323
