Jack's Son Posted October 13, 2012 Share #4 Posted October 13, 2012 A not so good cast copy, that's my best guess.
teufelhunde.ret Posted October 14, 2012 Share #5 Posted October 14, 2012 Your emblems are WW2 "issue type" for the Barracks Cover. The guilt emblem (dress blues) has been customized, by removing the screw post and adding a pin and catch, most likely for converting it to a "sweetheart" pin. It may also have lost its post, becoming serviceable, hence converting it. The second (Service Greens) represent what are know as "hub and die error". Either or both of the hub or die (collars) came out of alignment (rotated) during the process of striking blank planchets (thus allowing an off-center strike), not seen very often, but they are out there. Brig Posted October 14, 2012 Share #7 Posted October 14, 2012 the first dress was converted to a sweetheart pin, probably after the post broke or was stripped. Common practice The service one is definitely a production error, not valuable, but great conversation pieces. I grab them up myself, I find them interesting!
