MattS Posted October 12, 2012 Share #1 Posted October 12, 2012 I found this at a local surplus store. It appears to be a heavily reworked SM Wholesale jump jacket and pants with added pockets, insignia, and a paint job. I think it will make an OK Halloween costume, any comments welcome! MattS Posted October 12, 2012 Author Share #2 Posted October 12, 2012 The rear has two additional pockets.
MattS Posted October 12, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted October 12, 2012 There's parachute material in the neck and the left cuff which has a pathfinder patch sewn to it. I guess they did that?
J_Andrews Posted October 13, 2012 Share #4 Posted October 13, 2012 1. In Normandy, the PFs wore no rank on the outside (I have been told). 2. No, they did not wear the wing that way. It went on Class A blouses (Service Dress until post-Bulge or later, then on Ikes).
MattS Posted October 13, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted October 13, 2012 I know little about the Pathfinders on D-Day, but I did get the feeling this guy went "over the top" on this outfit. Thanks for the reply! If this had been based on a real guy (which I doubt), it could have been 1SG Charles R. Malley, F Co 506th who is in this photo somewhere: Source: http://www.americandday.org/D-Day/Airborne_Division-Pathfinder-Plane_4.html
Gregory Posted October 13, 2012 Share #6 Posted October 13, 2012 Coloristically this jacket looks like the British Denison Smock for abn forces.
Johan Willaert Posted October 13, 2012 Share #7 Posted October 13, 2012 Might be based on the camoed 1Sgt jump jacket on display in the Vierville Omaha Beach museum... That one came off a 377th PFA GI...
Sabrejet Posted October 13, 2012 Share #8 Posted October 13, 2012 It might be a little "OTT" but personally, I like it!

MattS Posted October 14, 2012 Author Share #10 Posted October 14, 2012 Thanks guys! Considering I paid less than 1/2 of what the coat itself costs, it's not bad.
Corpsmancollector Posted October 15, 2012 Share #11 Posted October 15, 2012 Might be based on the camoed 1Sgt jump jacket on display in the Vierville Omaha Beach museum... That one came off a 377th PFA GI... That was my first thought Johan, very thick green and black hand painted camo. Though I cant remember whether that jacket has additional pockets on the back? I always thought it was a pathfinder jacket and was surprised to see it was 377th. Will
Johan Willaert Posted October 15, 2012 Share #12 Posted October 15, 2012 The camoed BLISS suit in the Dead Men's Corner museum is also 377th...
