Numbered Distinguished Service Cross Contract?

Recommended Posts

Hello, all. I have had this DSC for a couple of years and am wondering what contract it was manufactured under and what its approximate year of issue would have been. It is a full wrap broach and is number 8890.

Thank you for any information that can be given.

Ken

That number range that I know of is untraceable. I think that that number range is late WW1 or early ww2. Can't remember for sure.My books only have the names of the vets with no numbers. The book that has all the ranges is by Gary Mitchel. With I have never found yet. Some of the other guys have it an can give you more verification on the numbering. And the date. The Manufacture looks like the Robbins Co.

Nick, Sorry to get back to you so late, but thank you for your reply. I was wondering if this was a Robbins piece as it seemed similar to other ones I had seen.

Take care,

Ken

As Nick pointed out it is a WWI era production. These were manufactured by the U.S. Mint. Unfortunately there is no known record/listing of who received DSC medals numbered in the 8,000 range. Some of these medals are known to have been awarded in WWII or as replacement pieces for lost or late WWI awards.
