Tom Kibler Posted September 17, 2012 Share #1 Posted September 17, 2012 Gordon Cullings and I spend the anniversary of his jump eating lunch and talking about some of his experiences. His is still surprised anyone would care. Bud was a medic attached to C Company 1/508th. His baptism of fire was in Holland. As a Normandy replacement, he accompanied Lt. Weaver's patrol on the evening of 17 September, into the heart of Nijmegen. The patrol ambushed two truck loads of German soldiers. During the skirmish, Cullings was wounded in the knee and remained until all of the wounded were tended to and evacuated, before seeking treatment himself. For this, his "D-Day" night, he was awarded the PH and BSM. He's still sharp as a tack! (And will be with me at the MAX).
